Monthly Recap
So, quite a bit has happened since the last seasonal recap. The biggest occurrence has been our rise in the ranks of NBA podcasts. In less than three years, Basketball Now and Then has made the FeedSpot Top 100 NBA Podcasts list.
Through research, I wanted to find out how and why we made the list. Here is what I discovered.
Recognition
Being named a Top 100 NBA podcast by Feedspot reflects a combination of consistent content quality, strong audience engagement, SEO visibility, and overall authority across platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Feedspot evaluates shows based on factors like publishing consistency, keyword performance, social interaction, backlinks, and how active and relevant a podcast remains within its niche.
Our unique “Now & Then” format, blending historical storytelling with modern comparisons, helped us stand out editorially in a crowded NBA podcast space dominated by news and hot takes. Earning this recognition is a meaningful accomplishment because it highlights not just growth, but the strength of our niche, consistency, and long-term vision as a narrative-driven basketball podcast.
The way I see it, all of this would not be possible without our amazing Now & Then Team. Lucas, Ben, Maurice, and Winston have done a remarkable job with consistency and commitment to the vision of offering unique content for NBA fans around the world. With that said, there has been an addition to the team. Allow me to introduce Cody.
New Addition
Cody Tinsley has joined the Basketball Now & Then team, where he contributes to social media managament, long-form articles, and editorial development exploring how the NBA evolves across eras. He became hooked on the NBA during the "Seven Seconds or Less" Suns era, and continues to love watching the game's global growth and impact. Outside of Basketball Now & Then, Cody is a longtime vinyl record head with a deep knowledge and passion for music history. He co-hosts the music history podcast EarWax, and produces short videos about music history across his social platforms.
Store Affiliation
After rebranding from NBA Now & Then to Basketball Now & Then, we applied for an affiliate partnership with the official NBA Store. Following a brief waiting period, we were approved and have added affiliate links to each episode description. Now, anyone who wishes to rep their favorite NBA player, or team, can purchase from the NBA Store and help support our show. The affiliate links are also available in most of our social media posts and in our articles. Feel free to browse and shop on our site, www.basketballnowandthen.com. More affiliate deals and sponsorships are on the way!
Podcast Connection
In previous months, our 50-40-90 Interview Series has given a platform to a number of basketball figures. Here is a list of guests we had on our show:
-
Neil Boyle | Animation Supervisor from the movie hit, SPACE JAM
-
Scoop B | NBA Insider and founder of Scoop B Radio
-
Kenan Kamwana Holley | Director of the hit Amazon Prime docuseries, SOUL POWER
-
Luke Epplin | Author of MOSES AND THE DOCTOR: Two Men, One Championship, and the Birth of Modern Basketball
-
Dr. Tommy Rhee | Sports chiropractor and pioneer in regenerative wellness, RHEEGEN
-
A.M. Pfeffer | Co-host of BEYOND THE SURFACE from the X-Rayted Sports Network
Also, in the past few months, I have been a guest on multiple podcasts to discuss the state of the NBA and other relative topics. The shows include Views from the Stands, Book 101, and The Daly Dose Sports Show.
Collaboration Central
Last year, we dipped our toes into the basketball movie review pond. Now, Ben and I will be working with 19 Group Media to bring even more behind-the-scenes details from your favorite basketball movies. The show is called HOOPS ON FILM, and our first episode collaborating with Warren Shaw and Reginal Ponder was released a few weeks back. You can listen to the episode on COACH CARTER and SPACE JAM on any platform you listen to podcasts.
On the Horizon
As the NBA Playoffs are in full swing, we still have plenty of great comparison episodes that will be released in subsequent weeks. We have comparisons on the way like:
-
DeMar DeRozan & Joe Johnson
-
Al Horford & Robert Parrish
-
Anthony Davis & Kevin Garnett
-
Donovan Mitchell & Steve Francis
-
Russell Westbrook & Derrick Rose
As we look ahead, the momentum behind Basketball Now & Then feels both earned and just beginning. From rising into Feedspot’s Top 100 to expanding our team, partnerships, and content reach, each step reinforces the strength of our vision, connecting generations of basketball through storytelling, comparison, and perspective. With new collaborations, growing audience support, and a slate of compelling episodes on the horizon, we’re positioned to keep building something that resonates far beyond the box score. The journey continues, and if these past few months are any indication, the best of Basketball Now & Then is still ahead.
Best,
Uriah Young, Founder of Basketball Now & Then
